Tally Whacker - The Rules

One of the unique things about Tally Whacker is that the rules change every year. Some things remain the same but we are always trying to throw in something different just to keep the golfers on their toes. Here are a few examples of past rules:

  • General/Fines:
    • The money collected from fines pays for the food on Sunday.
    • Players are fined at the whim of the organizer and any protests result in further fines.
    • Any player that does not have both feet on the putting green by 9:00 on Saturday morning will receive a fine.
    • No player will play with another player on the same team both Saturday and Sunday.

  • Scoring/Prizes:
    • Prizes are awarded to the team with the lowest number of putts in a scramble.
    • Points may be awarded for best outfit on Saturday morning (see Tournament Themes).
    • There are always KP prizes on 4 par 3’s each day.

  • Play:
    • Playing a poison ball, which means trying not to lose it or put it out of bounds.
    • Requiring a minimum of 3 drives per player, 3 second shots, and 3 third shots, or variations thereof.
    • ...an occasional variation of the above is a 4 tee-shot requirement.
    • Requiring each player to sink at least 3 putts.
    • Requiring each team to play out of at least 1 sand trap during the round.
    • Requiring right-handers to tee off left-handed, and visa versa, on the first hole.
    • The Frasell Rule:
      • the person whose drive is used may not hit the second, third or fourth shot
      • the person whose second shot is used may not hit the third or fourth shot
      • one of the two remaining players must hit the third shot
      • for a fourth shot, the team must use the last player’s shot regardless of where it goes
    • A variation of the Frasell Rule has also been used on par 3's, requiring a different team member's tee shot to be used on each par 3.
    • The Horserace:
      • A competition of two-player teams.
      • The Horserace is always played with 3 clubs and a putter, with team members hitting alternating shots (see Horserace Winners)

I don't want to play golf. When I hit a ball, I want someone else to go chase it.
