Tally Whacker 2007 Sunland Golf & Country Club - July 14 & 15
Won by Jeff Smith
43 players - 7 rookies
Tally Whacker 2007 was a great event! We had a total of 43 golfers this year including 7 rookies. The theme of "Tally Whackers of the Caribbean" was very prevalent on Saturday morning with the influx of Pirates, dreadlocks and Tommy Bahama shirts. Everyone came up with a different interpretation. Danny Lloyd was renamed Danielle for showing up as a beach girl, complete with sunglasses, bathing suit and hairy chest. Our guest of honor was Richard Taylor, long time Tally Whacker who was unable to play this year but showed up anyway to enjoy the fun and the food. We had 7 rookies this year including Greg Lally (Jim's son), Easta Nishio (member of the Jamaican Bob Sled team), Jeff Smith (who became the Grand Tally Whacker), Paul Lesh (and his photographic parrot), Sam Storey (the cigar guy), Skip Allen (who came all the way from Arizona), and Stan Ball.
Bob Pacquer, many times Grand Tally Whacker, lost to rookie Jeff Smith by a mere one point. Bob lost last year in a putt-off. Dennis Johnson, defending Grand Tally Whacker, finished the year with a mere one point. The Grand Putter Whacker trophy this year went to Bob Pacquer. I think he has a need to take home at least one trophy each year! Strangely, our defending Grand Putter Whacker, Neil Macdonald, had one of the highest scores this year. Not a lot of predictability in these events.
Prizes for greatest costumes this year were awarded to Andrys Gubens and Gary Alexander, both of which showed up with complete pirate costumes. The decision was very tough since there were so many great outfits this year. Just check out the photos to see for yourself.
Every year seems to sport additional generosity from the Tally Whackers. The number of prizes and the value of these prizes just seem to keep climbing. Many thanks go out this year to Bob Pacquer, Shawn Mastel, Mike Pitcher, Randy Russell, Burt Straight, Bruce Colwell and Rick Olson for their generosity and support. It is the attitude of these and others that make the Tally Whacker tournament such a success.
Tally Whacker 2008 will be on the 2nd weekend in August, specifically the 9th and 10th. The theme this year will be "Tally Whackers on Safari". A great change this year will be all new putting holes designed by five artists that won the Grand Raffle Prizes. Look for some great things from Bob Pacquer, Gene Dell (both multiple Grand Tally Whackers), Don Lloyd, Hal Cline, and Rookie Sam Storey.
