Tally Whacker 2006 was another great year for the 48 golfers who signed up. The weather was extremely warm with 90+ degree temperatures both days. This was our second year at Sunland Golf and Country Club and we were treated like royalty by all those involved at the Club. On the Friday before the event, 20 of the golfers played 18 holes at Dungeness in the morning and then were joined by another 20 golfers for a second 18 in the afternoon. Only 8 golfers did not make it up a day early to "warm up" for the big event.

This year's theme was "South of the Border" which was open to interpretation by some. Mike Temple came in Oregon garb but most went a little further south. The highlight of the theme was the fashionably late arrival of the "Three Amigos" along with their houseboy, "Hopsing Juarez". They introduced themselves as JosA, JosB and JosC and arrived on their ponies from which they dismounted in unison. This was an incredible way to begin the Tally Whacker on Saturday morning.

Of the 48 players, 10 were rookies, 6 were Tally Whackers who did not play last year and 34 were players returning from 2005. Above is the list of the players and the points they received from the two days of scramble, the horserace, the putting contest, the closest-to-the-pins, the long drives and the best outfits.

On the first day, the Scramble was won by the team of Brad Moore, Steve Morrison, Hal Cline and Gene Dell with a score of 65. The Grand Putter Whacker, with a score of 27, was Neil Macdonald, winning the Grand Putter Whacker trophy for the second time! The Horse race turned out to be very exciting with the team of Tom Thompson and Dennis Johnson winning in a chip off against Duke Schaub and Hal Cline on the 9th hole. On Sunday, the team of Joe Alongi, Tom Harry, Jeff Hartman and Mike Loyd won first place honors with an amazing 64, 8 birdies and no bogeys! The 48-man KP contest on #15 was won by Bob Pacquer with Steve Morrison a close second. The four KP's on Saturday were won in order by Bob Pacquer, James Tay, Art Tay and Gary Alexander. On Sunday, the winners were Bob Pacquer (again), Tom Elliott, Joe Alongi and "Mac" McKern. Burt Straight had the long drive on Saturday and John Thorson won the long drive on Sunday.

Golf is like eating peanuts. You can play too much or play too little.
