Burt's Blogger Whacker...

Tremendous weather and an immaculate golf course made this year's Tournament just awesome! Polka dots and stripes blurred our vision on the green Saturday morning. When all was done on Sunday afternoon, Art Tay (a past Grand Tallywhacker) was crowned 2014's Grand Tallywhacker with 14 pts. in a close competition. Roger Francis (our founding father) and Bruce Johnson tied for second with 13 pts. The Grand Putter Whacker went to a rookie, Jim Mead, with 13 putts. Second place went to Art Tay in a hole elimination with his brother James Tay, with 14 putts. Obviously the Tays have something figured out as both are past Grand Tallywhackers. Least Putter Whacker, a dubious achievement indeed, went to Shawn Wells.

The Saturday Scramble, with a score of 64, was won by the team of James Tay, Roger Francis, Gary Alexander and rookie Dave Bonnono. Second went to John Lindseth, Mac McKern, Mike Pitcher and Hal Cline at 66. Third place finishers were the threesome of Burt Straight, Mike Pinch and Art Tay at 68.

The Horse Race, always hotly contested, was won by Mike Pitcher and Bruce Johnson, with Hal Cline and Bruce Colwell second, and Mike Pinch and Mac McKern coming in third. It has to be noted the first 12 players out took a combined 51 strokes on the twelfth hole alone. Obviously, not many of those players moved on after the 15th hole. Speaking of the par 3 fifteenth hole, Tom Robinson dropped a beauty in close for the K.P. and the ceremonial sword.

On a beautiful, sunny Sunday, the Scramble was won by John Lindseth, Roger Francis, Art Tay (*), and Shawn Wells at 66. Second was Tom Robinson, Mac McKern, Gary Alexander, and Jamie Straight with a 70. Third, by hole elimination, with a 70 also was Burt Straight, Terry Campbell, Jacob Evert, and Hal Cline.

2015 will be our 30th Year and a Special Event is planned. The theme, because it is a memorable year, is FORMAL ATTIRE. By that, it means coat and tie on the green Saturday morning, coat and tie for Saturday

See you next July...
