This was probably the first year with the name Tally Whacker. The Grand Tally Whacker trophy was introduced along the first Horserace. Initially, the first day was to be a scramble and the second day individual play but all had so much fun in the scramble on Saturday that they voted unanimously to play another scramble on Sunday and it has remained that way ever since.
